Christopher Boyd, AIA

Chris has played key roles in the design and execution of dozens of buildings under three well-known architects in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, netting over fifty design awards, including a national AIA award for the Woolly Mammoth Theatre, and more than a dozen publications. His work spans the DC / MD / VA Metro area, Baltimore, the Chesapeake Bay region, Delaware and Maryland beachfronts, Massachusetts, Northern Michigan, and Miami Beach.

His career has reinforced and developed the principles of thoughtful design, material articulation, and quality construction in which he immersed himself while earning his Bachelors of Architecture at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia and its urban extension WAAC outside Washington, DC.

As an artist, craftsman, shameless tinkerer, and ridiculously under-qualified backyard mechanic, Chris combines the sculptural aspects of space-making, a first-hand understanding of practical assembly and construction, and an insatiable curiosity to craft beautiful and long-lasting solutions with builders, tradespeople, and other designers.

Christina Boyd,

Marketing & Resources Coordinator

Chris’s proudest accomplishment is staying at home to raise our two beautiful daughters for two decades. She also taught childbirth education classes at night for ten years and spent more than fifteen years volunteering in the public school system in her local community in both Anne Arundel and Montgomery Counties. Now that the girls are grown and flown, Chris spends most of her days as a full time substitute teacher for AACPS.

When school isn’t in session, Chris stays connected to the community by offering a helping hand to neighbors in need. She fulfills her passion for life through avid gardening. Her gardens are exquisite, a sight to see during the blooming season. She is also an active TikTok content creator who has made it her mission to make our chocolate labs TikTok famous. The pups are happy to oblige with ever-entertaining antics to fill the peace and quiet left behind by the girls.

Chris comes from a family where working together is common place; in fact, her parents have always worked together through multiple business ventures. Given her background in combined work and family life, it came as no surprise that she jumped at the opportunity to work jointly with her husband when he proposed it. Her teaching experience, volunteer efforts, social media marketing skills, and family values have brought a wealth of influence to the day-to-day operation of boydarc. While her skills and enthusiasm for marketing, accounting, and resource administration are a tremendous asset to the firm, her straightforward approach and objective viewpoint lend balance to a challenging industry. The Chrises, as they’re referred to by many, spend the end of each day working across the desk from each other, he often relying on her practical insights and creative suggestions to help him weed through design options and offer inspiring perspectives that would have otherwise eluded him.

The Lab Pack, Office Dogs

In order from left to right, Phoebe, Eve, Nalah, and Ellie take their job as office dogs very seriously, breaking from their role only briefly each day for a quick swim in the pool, a walk through the neighborhood, or to bark at the Amazon driver. They may look identical to you, but they couldn’t be more different. Ranging in age from 6 to 11, our chocolate labs have vastly different personalities and are the life of the party, bringing laughter and smiles to the office day after day.
